CONTRIBUTIONS TO HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS AND GLOBAL HEALTH CHALLENGES.

We also work to promote accessibility to medicinal products through our participation in national and European sector associations such as Medicines for Europe, Afaquim (Spanish Association of Fine Chemicals Manufacturers), and the European Fine Chemicals Group (EFCG), with company representatives sitting on their respective governing bodies.

Medicines for Europe’s primary objective is promoting access to generic and biosimilar medicines in Europe. It represents and supports companies that manufacture and distribute these products, championing greater access to affordable, quality medicines to improve health. By broadening the availability of generic and biosimilar medicines, the organization contributes to lowering pharmaceutical costs and making treatments more accessible.

EFCG and Afaquim represent companies in the fine chemicals sector, primarily API producers. These associations promote innovation in the fine chemicals industry by supporting research and development of new products and processes that meet quality and sustainability standards. EFCG, in particular, advocates for government policies and regulations that promote sustainability in the chemical industry, including incentives for investing in clean technologies and adopting stricter global environmental standards.

Medichem’s involvement in these associations helps support the adoption of policies in the European pharmaceutical and fine chemicals industry that encourage the sustainable production of medicinal products and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) within the European Union. This, in turn, encourages domestic production to reduce shortages of critical medicines, facilitates generic access, and promotes the quality and safety of generic APIs throughout their lifecycle—from development and production to patient use.
